8 There is a strategic ‘Mental Health Lead’ (although they may hold other roles) and they are aware of how they compliment/work with other roles, such as the SENDCO/Pastoral Leader/Safeguarding Lead.
Examples: The lead has undertaken recognised Mental Health Lead training. The lead has connections to local mental health/wellbeing services for their population. The lead has met with other key roles to agree joint working protocols. There is dedicated time/meetings for discussion of pupils with complex needs.
9 The Mental Health Lead role is fully supported by the Senior Management Team.
Examples: The lead is a member of the Senior Management Team, or reports to a member. The lead is involved in strategic changes, such as policy or procedure review/development. Clear communication methods exist with the Mental Health Lead that impact whole-setting practice.
10 There is a whole-setting Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy, covering wellbeing of staff and pupils.
Examples: Other policies refer to the policy and vice versa. Policy available on website.
11 The policy reflects governmental or other relevant guidance.
Includes Department for Education or Public Health.
12 The policy reflects stakeholder engagement.
Examples: Evidence of coproduction with staff, parents and pupils. Input from other senior leads. Involvement from community groups.
13 The Governing Body know their role in overseeing and monitoring the social, emotional and mental health of pupils and staff.
Examples: Identified governor in place. Governor has attended training. Lead Governor works with the Mental Health Lead. Governor attendance at community meetings. Governing body agenda/minutes reflect mental health and wellbeing priorities.
14 There is regular training for the Governing Body on their responsibilities for supporting staff and pupils in social, emotional and mental health.
Examples: The lead Governor for mental health has attended specialist training. Staff and pupil mental health is included in the induction for new Governors. Audits of training need include Governors.

15 The Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy is documented and monitored.
Examples: Strategy. Annotated action plan. Reports to leadership team/Governing body. Annual report on website.

16 Setting practices reflect mental health awareness.
Examples: Suspension and exclusion practice reflects mental health and wellbeing, plus other contributing factors that may have influenced a situation. Bullying response reflects mental health and wellbeing of all involved. Staff absence procedure reflect staff wellbeing.
