20 Parents and carers are able to talk about the Mental Health and Wellbeing, Attendance and Behaviour Policies.
Examples: Parent/carer versions of key policies are available and promoted to them. Parents with concerns know how to access and are able to refer for/seek support. Questionnaires/surveys reflect parent/carer feedback on procedures, such as what has worked well for them.
21 Parents and carers are involved in the formulation and implementation of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy and provision.
Examples: There are mechanisms in place to encourage parental contributions which influence change in policy and procedure. Parents/carers can raise concerns about their child’s wellbeing without undue barriers, such as needing an appointment. Events, such as parents’ evenings, are used to engage with the community and collect parent/carer voice.
22 Provision is in place to support parenting skills, promote resilience and mental wellbeing in the home environment.
Examples: Information is provided for parents and carers related to mental health and emotional wellbeing by: The promotion of useful websites; The use of parent briefings and regular communication; Promoting resources that can be shared wider family or caregivers; Signposting via the website to possible support and information services. Provision is in place such as parent groups, drop-ins and coffee mornings offering opportunities for peer support, internal support and external support and information sharing where appropriate. Provision empowers families and promotes pupil resilience and self-help skills. Education is offered around the use of social media and the possible impact of it on wellbeing.
